A dentist in Texas who appears to be unlicensed was arrested for allegedly using pliers to pull a woman's tooth, leaving it broken and damaging her jaw, according to multiple news reports published on March 25.
Cesar Augusto Perez Mejia, 47, was charged with practicing dentistry without a license. Mejia has been in custody on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold following his arrest in February on an unrelated aggravated assault charge, according to the stories.
In September 2024, the alleged victim went to Mejia's apartment in Houston to undergo dental surgery. Mejia reportedly charged individuals $250 and higher for procedures.
The woman was reportedly administered anesthesia. Mejia then allegedly used pliers to pull one of her teeth, causing it to break and damaging her jaw. The woman had to be taken to the hospital, according to the articles.
It appears as though Meija does not have a dental license. Furthermore, Mejia was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly attempted to attack a neighbor with a screwdriver. Mejia reportedly confused this victim with another woman, according to the stories.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
