A man in Texas accused of practicing without a dental license when he botched procedures for three women, including leaving one with a third of her teeth, was sentenced after reaching a plea deal, according to a story published on December 9 in the Brownsville Herald.

Gerardo Casas, 50, pleaded guilty on December 8 to three counts of dentistry act violations and was sentenced to deferred adjudication -- a form of probation -- as part of the plea deal.

The agreement was reached after Casas admitted to botching multiple women’s procedures. If Casas does not comply with the conditions of his probation, he could serve two to 10 years in prison, according to the story.

Additionally, he was ordered to pay $3,600 in restitution to his victims.

In March 2025, Casas was arrested after a woman claimed that he pulled 10 of her teeth and measured her for dentures. However, she claimed Casas never returned with her dentures. The woman claimed she was left in pain and with no teeth. She claimed that she paid Casas $1,800 for teeth removal and dentures, according to the stories.

Additionally, Casas allegedly went to a La Joya, TX, home and extracted some of the teeth of two sisters. Casas reportedly measured them for dentures, but the sisters claimed they were measured incorrectly, so they didn't fit properly and caused pain.

In June 2023, the women contacted authorities about Casas because they thought he did a poor job and they wanted to press charges.

When police caught up with Casas, authorities said he was noncooperative, according to the stories.
