The 74-year-old man who allegedly tried to kill himself after shooting a dental assistant multiple times at her work on December 1 is now being held in jail, according to a story recently published in Classic City News.
Carl Cark, who allegedly shot his partner, Sheila Mobley, 47, four times, including in her face, at McRae Family Dental in Athens, GA, and then turned the gun on himself when police caught up with him after he fled, was released from the hospital and transported to jail without bail, according to the story.
It is unknown whether Mobley remains hospitalized.
Police have characterized the shooting as an act of domestic violence but have not disclosed a motive, according to the story.
On December 1 at 6:36 a.m., an employee at McRae Family Dental in Athens, GA, called 911 after hearing gunshots and the screams of Mobley. When police arrived, officers found Mobley sitting on the floor with a gunshot wound to her face. The practice was not open for business at the time of the shooting.
Since Mobley reportedly could barely speak, she used a notepad and pen to provide officers with information, including allegedly identifying Clark and providing Clark’s address and vehicle description.
Police searched for Clark, and his vehicle was eventually spotted. During a police traffic stop, Clark allegedly shot himself. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
Clark is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and attempted murder.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
