The dental profession has always had a love-hate relationship with dental insurance. Dentists who participate often resent the control the dental insurance companies exert over reimbursements and when the rare increases in those reimbursements take place. With a little effort, you can make dental insurance work in your favor.
Perform a strict analysis when enrolling in or exiting dental insurance plans. Dentists can easily make a number of mistakes by jumping into or out of insurance plans based on gut instinct rather than good sound analysis.
Don't forget to remind patients about their insurance benefits. Some patients still have insurance benefits available but have not completed treatment. Contacting them and commenting on the loss of available dollars from the insurance company often motivates patients to schedule treatment.
