Bookkeeper goes to jail for stealing $70K from dentist

A Redwood City, CA, bookkeeper has been sentenced to two years in jail and two years of probation for stealing $70,000 from the dentist who employed her, according to a news story in the San Jose Mercury News.

San Leandro resident Jasmine Delafuente, 31, had originally pleaded not guilty but switched her plea to no contest on January 3 in San Mateo County Superior Court, according to the story.

Delafuente received patient payments in cash and deleted the transactions from office records. The embezzlement took place from March 2009 to August 2010.

Delafuente had previously been fired from another dental office for stealing $6,793 and was sentenced to 60 days jail and felony probation for that crime, the story concluded.
