Astra Tech, UIC extend implant partnership

Building on the success of a partnership that began in 2005, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry has signed a seven-year agreement with Astra Tech to continue supporting its implant dentistry curriculum.

A "significantly large" gift from Astra Tech in 2005 helped establish the university's clinical implant dentistry program, resulting in better and more affordable patient care, a unique curriculum for students, and opportunities for current practitioners to add clinical implant dentistry to their repertoire of skills, noted Stephen Campbell, DDS, head of the department of restorative dentistry, in a press release.

Going forward, the partnership will continue supporting all of the college's predoctoral implant programs in an expanded role, according to Dr. Campbell.

"This expanded partnership allows us to do more advanced work with our dental students and make certain that they are best prepared to use the latest technology in the community," he said.

The university is currently constructing the ProCare Dental Implant and Innovations Center, funded by a generous donation from ProCare Dental Group. The Astra Tech partnership also provides additional funding for the center's construction.
