Washington students attend dental camp

While other kids are canoeing and shooting arrows into hay bales, students at the Eastern Washington University Dental Camp are examining the teeth of mannequins.

The three-hour camp, which was offered July 10 and will take place again on July 24, aims to introduce middle school students of ethnic minority backgrounds to various careers in dentistry.

Each camper gets a minioffice in a simulation laboratory with dental light, mirrors, and other instruments. At the end, campers compete in a Dental IQ face-off.

This is the fifth year of the camp, but it might be the last since it has lost funding, according to an article in the Cheney Free Press.
