Recognize the need for assessment. Just as your patients have regular checkups, practices themselves need to be examined periodically. Dental practices face a host of challenges that, in some cases, did not exist 10 or 20 years ago. For example, the Great Recession changed how people make purchases, including dentistry. In addition, there are new competitors, such as national dental service organizations.

Don't try to do it yourself. Practice analysis is not a simple undertaking. It encompasses many facets, including production numbers, staff evaluation, and even doctor leadership. To understand the full potential of your practice, an objective, outside expert is usually needed.
