A dentist in Massachusetts has been indicted for submitting about $200,000 in false claims to Medicaid for dental care that wasn't done or was required to be performed by a dentist but wasn't, according to the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General.
Dr. Marcus Swann, 49, and his practice, Direct Pay Dental, of Falmouth, MA, were each charged with four counts of Medicaid false claims and larceny over $1,200, according to a press release dated March 5 from the attorney general's office.
Between May 2017 and August 2022, Swann and Direct Pay Dental reportedly billed the state's Medicaid program, MassHealth, for procedures, including patient exams and dental crowns, that were performed by dental hygienists or dental assistants though those services are required to be performed by a licensed dentist, according to the release.
Furthermore, from May 2017 through December 2020, Swann and the practice purportedly billed MassHealth for dental services that were not provided, according to the release.
