Dental Practice Made Simple is a video series from DrBicuspid.com and Levin Group. Tune in every Wednesday for a quick tip from Dr. Roger P. Levin to learn how to build high-powered, proven systems that lead to practice success.

No dentist likes to hear patients say they want a second opinion. But dentists can seize the opportunities of second opinions by offering them in their own practice, Levin said in the latest episode of Dental Practice Made Simple.

"When someone says, 'I'm going to get a second opinion,' they're basically saying, 'I don't fully trust you,' and that just doesn't feel good," he said. "The best way to deal with second opinions is to have them in your own office."

Levin recommended two ways to have a second opinion in the office. The first is to have the assistant praise the merits of the dentist and the treatment right after the dentist makes his or her case and leaves the room. The other opportunity is to have hygienists reinforce why a procedure will benefit a patient at the next hygiene appointment.

"That is the long-term second opinion," Levin said. "Pretty simple approach -- but powerful."

In the video below, learn more about how to offer patients second opinions in your office.
