How to help with Hurricane Irma relief efforts

More organizations and businesses have stepped up to help the victims of flooding and tornadoes in Florida and other areas affected by Hurricane Irma. Below is a list of some of the ways to help with relief efforts. The list will be updated as necessary.

Organizations

Florida Dental Association Relief Fund

The Florida Dental Association (FDA) Foundation has established the FDA Disaster Relief fund that will provide emergency grants of up to $1,500 to dentists for personal needs, including food, water, clothing, emergency shelter, and medication. Donations to the relief fund can be made here.

American Dental Association Foundation

The American Dental Association Foundation (ADAF) has set up a "How to Help" page for victims of hurricane relief here. Donations to the page will support the foundation's disaster assistance program for dentists affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

The ADAF provides Emergency Disaster Grants of up to $2,000 for personal needs, including food, water, clothing, emergency shelter, and medication. Dentists affected by the recent hurricanes can learn more about and apply for disaster assistance here.


American Red Cross

The American Red Cross has set up a page for donations to help those affected by Hurricane Irma here.


Dental companies

The following companies are offering disaster relief options.

Benco Dental

Benco Dental has set up an online guide for dentists and dental practices that have been affected by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey. The guide includes practical tips, such as a list of things to do, and resources, such as links to federal and state disaster assistance programs.

Benco has also set up a disaster recovery help line. If you are a dentist who has been affected by the hurricanes, you can get help in the following ways:

  • Reach out to your local Benco representative.
  • Call 1-800-462-3626, press 8, and dial 4278.
  • Email Benco's chief customer advocate at [email protected] or associate chief customer advocate at [email protected].

Henry Schein

Henry Schein is offering its disaster relief hotline for customers affected by the flooding and tornadoes in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Florida, and all other areas affected by the storm.

Dentists, physicians, and veterinarians who have operational, logistical, or financial issues as a result of the hurricane can call the toll-free number 800-999-9729. The hotline is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern time and remains open year-round to provide assistance to practitioners affected by disasters.


Patterson Dental

Patterson Dental is offering to assist dentists who have been affected by Hurricane Irma to recover their practices. If you've been affected, you can contact your local representative or call 800-873-7683.

Patterson has also increased its donation to the American Red Cross to help those affected by Hurricane Irma and will continue to match employee contributions to the American Red Cross up to $50,000 for hurricane relief efforts.


Ultradent Products

Ultradent Products is offering dentists affected by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey $500 worth of free products, with 40% off all consumable products and 15% off all equipment purchases exceeding the initial $500 in the hopes of providing some aid in the rebuilding efforts of the dental community.

Ultradent has also increased its donation to Saint Bernard Project and All Hands Volunteers from $250,000 to $300,000 to help with damage caused by Hurricane Irma.
