As you and your team go through your daily routines and care for patients, clutter can easily accumulate. To prevent it from getting out of control and interfering with your work, schedule semiannual office cleanups. Go through all drawers, cabinets, closets, and other storage areas -- organizing, reorganizing, and disposing of obsolete or otherwise unusable supplies and equipment. Doing so will upgrade your operational efficiency.

Do

Make cleanup day a fun event. To make the process go faster and easier, ask the team what would make it more enjoyable. Consider ordering in pizza, popping popcorn, and other fun food ideas -- invite everyone to bring in their favorite music to play -- wear jeans, shorts, or funny outfits. Use your imagination!

Don

Don't give orders from the sidelines. On cleanup day, everybody's equal. Get down on your hands and knees to clear out the back of a closet. Lug out bags of trash. Serve food to everyone. Your staff will get a kick out of it, and team spirit will soar.
