Dental practices in New England have the highest average valuation, according to data compiled from DrBicuspid-Snapshot, a new practice valuation tool. The data also revealed that, generally, the more treatment rooms you have, the more your dental practice is worth.

The latest review of data from DrBicuspid-Snapshot indicates that practices in New England have the highest average valuation at $791,850. Next were practices in the West North Central region, with an average valuation of $731,711.

Bringing up the rear? The Middle Atlantic region, with an average valuation just over half a million dollars, according to DrBicuspid-SnapShot.

The data also show that, while generally the bigger the dental office means a higher valuation, the cost per square foot varies.

New valuation tool

The DrBicuspid-Snapshot tool can give U.S. dentists an approximate valuation of their practice in about 10 minutes after completing a short survey. The tool is free for members of DrBicuspid.com, and individual practice information will not be disclosed.

For this survey, all data are valid as of August 12.

Valuation by square feet

As the chart below indicates, for the most part, more square feet equals a higher valuation. However, value per square foot varies. The chart shows office square footage values. To determine values per square foot, the midpoint of the range was used (for example, 1,250 ft for 1,000 to 1,499 ft).

Offices between 3,000 and 3,499 sq ft pay the highest cost per square foot of $285.20, according to the data from DrBicuspid-SnapShot. Larger offices (between 3,500 and 4,499 sq ft) have the lowest cost per square foot of $245.38.

Treatment room valuation

If square footage isn't a linear progression in terms of increasing practice valuation, the number of treatment rooms almost is. As the chart below indicates, generally the more treatment rooms a practice has, up to nine, the higher valuation the practice has.
