New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry's Pain Research Center received an $8 million grant to investigate signaling mechanisms behind oral cancer pain.
A team of scientists, including researchers from the pain centerand Columbia University's Department of Biomedical Engineering, will investigate signaling receptors within cells called endosomes. These receptors, known as G protein-coupled receptors and receptor tyrosine kinases, play crucial roles in various physiological and pathological processes, including cancer pain and chronic pain.
The five-year grant is being funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health Helping to End Addiction Long-term Initiative, which aims to end the opioid crisis.
