William W. Dodge, DDS, has been named dean of the dental school at the University of Texas (UT) Health Science Center at San Antonio, effective April 1.
Dr. Dodge, who has served as interim dean since June 2012, has also served as the school's vice dean and as associate dean for patient care, according to the university. He joined the health science center in 1978 after practicing as a general dentist in San Antonio. Dr. Dodge also served as a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps.
He received his dental degree at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Dr. Dodge was instrumental in efforts to build the Center for Oral Health Care and Research at the school, which will open in 2015. The $95 million, 198,000-sq-ft facility will house clinical training and patient care. It will also facilitate clinical research trials.
The former dean, Kenneth Kalkwarf, DDS, is serving as special assistant to the president and plans to retire this summer.
