Dear DrBicuspid Member,
A Missouri dentist made an online video cautioning viewers about the use of snap-on veneers only to later be sued by the owner of a dental lab in Texas that makes this type of temporary prosthetic. Our top story of the week summarizes the defamation lawsuit details and video claims.
Also, a popular orthodontist on TikTok is cautioning patients to keep the cutlery in the kitchen and not use a spoon to remove their braces. The dentist warns viewers that taking off one's braces with this method would leave glue remaining on the teeth that would need to be removed, and it would cause the teeth to shift without the use of a retainer.
CBCT on the rise for young people
The use of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging for patients between the ages of 6 and 12 has risen every year since 2017, according to new research. Imaging was most often ordered to assess dentigerous cysts and impacted teeth.
NSAIDs shine in pain relief study
Yet another study has concluded that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) result in comparable -- or even better -- outcomes than opioids for acute pain management after dental procedures. A new systematic review identified four pain medication combinations deemed most effective for pain relief for tooth extractions and pulpitis.

People ages 25 to 49 years old were most in favor of expanding Medicare benefits, with 96% agreeing that Medicare should be expanded to include vision and dental services.
