The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) applauded the recent release of a report from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) offering details on advances in the understanding and treatment of oral diseases and conditions over the past 20 years.

The NIDCR report, titled "Oral Health in America: Advances and Challenges," represents the culmination of two years of research and writing by more than 400 contributors. The report is a follow-up to the surgeon general's 2000 report on oral health.

"While great progress has been made, many old and new challenges still exist. Innovative dental, oral, and craniofacial research is critical for addressing the challenges outlined in this report. It is our research that will help advance health and well-being today and for many years to come," said AADOCR President Jacques Eduardo Nör, in a news release.

The full report is available on the NIDCR's website.
