The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has launched its Healthy People 2030 national plan to promote and improve public health and prevent disease. The 10-year plan includes 14 oral health objectives among the 355 measurable health objectives, according to the California Dental Association (CDA).

The CDA said that the oral health objectives include goals to achieve the following:

  • Reduce the proportion of children with lifetime, active, and untreated tooth decay
  • Increase the proportion of children with sealants and preventive dental visits
  • Increase the proportion of people with dental insurance and access to dental care
  • Increase the proportion of people with fluoridated water
  • Reduce the consumption of added sugars

The Healthy People program is now in its fifth iteration.
