Study compares digital x-rays and film; Climo on no broker fees; CDC reports on preventive care

Digital radiography may be chipping away at the market share of film, but the latter still has its advantages. Saudi researchers compared conventional film with direct and semidirect digital radiography systems to find out which one produced the best images. They found a clear winner. In his latest column, consultant Thomas Climo, PhD, discusses the idea recently presented to him of a 2% success fee for the sale of a dental practice, resulting in no broker fees for the seller. He writes that this 2% finder's fee is substantially below the commission rates being charged by brokers at present. Read his thoughts here.

Millions of infants, children, and adolescents in the U.S. are not getting preventive dental services, according to a new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Although preventive dental care is effective, the percentage of children using dental care is low. Read more here.

Radiation therapy alone is as effective as radiation therapy with chemotherapy in decreasing swallowing complications experienced by advanced esophageal cancer patients, thus allowing patients to forgo chemotherapy, according to research presented at this week's American Society for Radiation Oncology annual meeting.
