ScanMed unveils MRI coil for mandible imaging

ScanMed of Resonance Innovations has introduced a new phased-array MRI coil for orbit and mandible imaging.

The company's Orbit and Mandible Array provides high-resolution images of orbits as well as anatomies within the region of the mandible. The semiflexible design fits comfortably over the patient's eyes or jaw and is strapped into place using the provided restraint strap and optional positioning pad, ScanMed said.

The phased-array coil can be configured to work on systems with channel counts of four, eight, or more. The design offers an improved signal-to-noise ratio needed for protocols such as strabismus studies. ScanMed's new system is designed to work with an orbit-targeting system and provides a fiber-optic illuminated target on which the patient focuses as directed by the MRI technologist.

ScanMed will showcase the coil at this year's American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) meeting in Palm Springs, CA, from April 2-6.
