Beatle's tooth goes on tour to promote cancer awareness

John Lennon's tooth is set to go on tour, according to news reports.

The tooth of the late Beatles singer was purchased last year by Michael Zuk, DDS, a Canadian dentist, for more than $30,000 at an auction in the U.K. A piece of it was used in a necklace fabricated by a Beverly Hills, CA, jeweler. Now it is helping to raise oral cancer awareness on a tour of U.K. dental practices.

In conjunction with National Mouth Cancer Month, the necklace will visit 16 dental practices around the U.K. that will offer free cancer screenings while hosting promotions and fundraisers.

Lennon had given the tooth to his housekeeper because her daughter was a big fan. It was expected to sell for $15,000 but fetched twice that amount.

Dr. Zuk's sister, an artist, used another fragment of Lennon's molar in a clay bust of the late Beatles singer.
