Forum tackles access-to-care crisis; start-up touts new titanium implant

The U.S. access-to-care crisis has become a polarizing issue in dentistry, with numerous solutions being bandied about, including new workforce models, more dental schools, and a revamping of the Medicaid reimbursement system.

So when public health experts gathered in Washington, DC, August 17 for a forum on the U.S. oral healthcare crisis, it was a pleasant surprise when they clearly agreed on one thing: There is no single solution that will fix the system. Read more.

In other news, Sirona Dental Systems caused quite a stir last week in Las Vegas with the introduction of the Omnicam, a new intraoral camera for the Cerec AC that features full-color streaming video capture; a smaller, more ergonomic handpiece; and a completely powder-free process.

And a California company founded earlier this year by two graduates of the University of California, San Diego is hoping to break into the dental market with a new type of titanium implant that features a proprietary surface-modification technique.
