Ill. dental worker steals patient info

A worker at an Illinois dental practice pleaded guilty to felony charges for stealing the personal information of customers of Dental Network of America and using it to apply for credit cards, according to a story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Claudine Jones of Cahokia, IL, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and admitted that when she worked for Dental Network, she supplied the personal information -- including names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth -- for about 10 patients to her cousin, the Post-Dispatch reported.

Someone then applied for credit cards in the customers' names, and Jones used one of the cards to obtain cash advances.

Jones faces six to 12 months in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $20,000 when she is sentenced later this year.
