Ohio program to offer dental care to low-income adults

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department is preparing to open an adult dental services program in Parkersburg this summer, according to a story in the Parkersburg News and Sentinel.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Smiles for Life Adult Dental Screening and Referral Program is expected to be open to low-income residents of the area in August, according to Mary Beth Shea, oral health coordinator for the health department.

The program will offer screening, oral health education, and supplies for a nominal fee. Clients will be charged for necessary x-rays and necessary treatment on a sliding scale according to U.S. poverty guidelines, and proof of income is required, according to the article.

The services will be provided by area dentists who will volunteer their time from their own dental practices, and the program will be sustained by the fees generated at the clinic.
