Sarrell claims victory in Ala.; Mo. dental board endorses MLPs

Two interesting legislative developments at the state level this week could have broader implications for U.S. dentistry going forward:

  • Sarrell Dental, a chain of nonprofit dental clinics based in Alabama, is declaring victory after lawmakers approved legislation that requires nonprofit dental clinics to register with the state dental board but does not subject them to more stringent regulations. Read more.

  • And in Missouri, despite opposition from the Missouri Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Board has become the first in the U.S. to endorse a proposal for midlevel providers (MLPs) that would allow them to do surgical and irreversible procedures. Read more.
