DC clinic to provide dental care to city's poor

Community of Hope, a Washington, DC, nonprofit that provides healthcare and housing to low-income and homeless families, will build a new Health and Resource Center to provide new access to medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare for approximately 8,500 residents of Ward 8.

The new center will be a 50,000-sq-ft building that will include 18 medical rooms, nine dental chairs, a laboratory, and space for educational classes and individual and group counseling. The building will be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified and include state-of-the-art equipment, including electronic health records. Construction is projected to start in the summer of 2011 and be completed in 2013.

Community of Hope provides primary medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare services to approximately 3,800 DC residents in its Adams Morgan health center. The organization transitioned to electronic health records in July 2010 with stimulus funds and is a federally qualified health center.
