U.K. dentist charged with $1.5 million fraud

A U.K. dentist who allegedly stole 1 million pounds ($1.5 million) from the National Health Service (NHS) in one of the largest frauds in the history of the health service has been arrested after a police investigation, according to a news story in the Daily Mail.

Joyce Trail, BDS, is accused of submitting up to 5,000 false patient invoices to the NHS. She has been suspended from her practice and faces one count of obtaining a false money transfer by deception and three counts of fraud.

Dr. Trail reportedly ran a "busy practice" in Handsworth for the past 12 years, according to the Daily Mail, and also provided dental services to the elderly in nursing homes.

She is currently on unconditional bail and has not yet entered a plea, the story noted.
