Congressman predicts less U.S. dental funding

Federal funding for U.S. dental programs may drop in fiscal 2010, according to a report by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).

The report quotes Rep. David Obey (D-WI), chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, as saying that the committee is unlikely to honor President Barack Obama's request for increases in health and education programs.

"Rep. Obey indicated that there is little support in Congress for certain budgetary mechanisms employed by the president to free up additional discretionary spending," the report states. And some resources will be devoted to new programs created by the health reform law.
