NY dentist faces prison for insurance fraud

A Scarsdale dentist who fraudulently billed MetLife for thousands of dollars in dental services is facing up to seven years in prison, according to a news story in the North Country Gazette.

Joanne Baker, D.D.S., fabricated patient medical records and submitted them to MetLife between March 2006 and February 2009, the paper reported. Approximately 18 patients have come forward with claims that she billed the insurance company for dental services she did not actually provide, according to the story.

Dr. Baker was arrested after an investigation by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company's Special Investigations Unit, and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office uncovered the fraud.

Dr. Baker will be sentenced on August 31 and has surrendered her license, the Gazette noted.
