Swedish dentists diagnose hypertension

Dentists in Uppsala, Sweden found that 20% of the patients they tested had hypertension without knowing it, according to a report on Radio Sweden.

The dentists tested 1,000 patients in a pilot program run by health officials there, the report said. The patients' whose blood pressure was found to be dangerously high were referred to primary care centers.

Sweden is considering a proposal to expand hypertension testing throughout dental offices, according to the radio program.
