Dentist says sex calls were a plot to steal his money

A Florida dentist whose office received up to 500 phone calls a day – all delivering a pre-recorded sex message – in November says it was part of a plan to steal money from him, according to a story in First Coast News.

Robert Thousand, D.D.S., of St. Augustine, said initially the phone calls were just a nuisance. He worked with AT&T and the local sheriff's office to stop the calls, noting that he couldn't change his phone number because he has a well-established practice and often serves as an on-call emergency dentist.

He told First Coast News that he now believes the calls were intended to tie up his phone line and distract him so that criminals could steal $400,000 from a brokerage account at his bank.

A second dentist in the area, Bradley Cherry, D.D.S., was also plagued by hundreds of similar calls a day in late November, according to a story on News4Jax.com.
