Komet USA has introduced an ovoid-shaped diamond bur intended to facilitate the proper model preparation for optimal and consistent post dams.

Designed in conjunction with Joseph J. Massad, D.D.S., of Tulsa, OK, the Post Dam Bur (673PD.104.023) is now available for both dentists and laboratory technicians who want to create a calibrated cut in the post palatal area. It is designed to take the place of a carving instrument or a standard rotary instrument in this zone. With the right amount of pressure, the user can evenly carve a junction between what would be the hard and soft pallet on the plaster model, according to the Schaumburg, IL-based company.
As the practitioner drives the bur flush with the plaster model, a depth of 0.5 mm will be produced on the incline of the model, yet at a depth of 1 mm will result in the center of the post dam.
The Post Dam Bur is also available in kits TD2064 and TD2065, both designed in conjunction with Dr. Massad for working on removable dentures.
