P&G responds to mouthwash lawsuit

Procter & Gamble (P&G) claims there is no foundation for a lawsuit claiming that the company's Crest Pro-Health mouthwash causes teeth stains and browning, according to a story in Crain's Detroit Business.

The story notes that Detroit-basedDykema Gossett will defend P&G in a federal lawsuit filed in August on behalf of a Michigan law firm partner and three other plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs are attempting to have the lawsuit given class-action status, Crain's reported. "That (P&G) would market and sell a product purporting to clean the mouth, but which, in reality, stains teeth, is a reprehensible marketing practice that should be enjoined and for which (the company) should pay damages," the plaintiff's lawsuit states. P&G has until mid-November to respond to the class action motion. In a response to the lawsuit, the company denies that Crest Pro-Health causes staining and that it made any false representations about it, according to Crain's.
