Plastic manufacturer Freelin-Wade this month released a new material for dental equipment tubes.
The compound, Silcryn, resists tearing better and has better color uniformity than silicone but costs less, according to the company.
In addition, Silcryn's "smooth silky surface will not grip onto itself or other tubes," Freelin-Wade said. Its suppleness reduces hand and wrist fatigue, the company stated, adding that it won't retain shapes into which it is bent, but will instead hang flat and straight so it doesn't tangle.
Freelin-Wade is currently stocking Silcryn for four-hole Midwest handpiece tubing and for scaler jackets. It's also available in custom runs for Euro-style handpiece jackets, vacuum hoses, and syringe tubing.
