Parents of children with cleft lip or palate or people who were born with a cleft lip or palate themselves are being asked to take part in a new research study to develop an online resource for families and individuals affected by this condition.
The research is being led by Andrea Waylen, PhD, at the University of Bristol School of Oral and Dental Sciences.
The aim of the study is to improve understanding of families' and young peoples' experiences of cleft lip and palate and develop information resources to support them, their friends and family, and the health professionals involved in their care, the university noted in a press release.
Many parents of children with cleft lip or palate can feel anxious or concerned about treatment and their child's future development, noted Aidan Searle, PhD, a research associate from the School of Oral and Dental Science. Study participants will be asked to do a video or audio interview about their personal experiences with cleft lip or palate.
