NEW YORK CITY - Several new products were launched at the well-attended Greater New York Dental Meeting this week. The gathering attracted more than 52,000 dental professionals in unusually mild weather for the Big Apple.
The new products included the following:
Ivoclar Vivadent introduced its Adhese Universal, a single-component, light-cured universal adhesive for direct and indirect bonding procedures. Adhese is compatible with all etching techniques, including self-etch, selective enamel-etch, and total-etch. The VivaPen enables the adhesive to be quickly delivered directly to the preparation and delivers up to 190 single-tooth applications while maintaining a high bond strength, according to the company.
Voco's Futurabond U is a universal adhesive in a unit-dose delivery system. It doesn't need activators and eliminates the solvent evaporation problem of bottles, according to the company. Futurabond U can be used in self-, selective-, and total-etch techniques without additional primers or activators to most substrates. It is dual-cured and also works in self-cure mode without light activation.
Ultradent introduced the Ultrawave and Ultrawave XS, the company's new line of piezo ultrasonic devices for clinicians seeking power scalers that are gentle to tooth surfaces but powerful enough to remove the toughest calculus. The Ultrawave line allows for a variety of uses -- from the workhorse of hygiene operatories to restorative, periodontal, or endodontic treatments. Ultradent's Reflex technology offers optimized performance, reduced chair time, and more comfort for patients, according to the company.
Dentsply introduced the Aquasil Ultra Cordless tissue managing impression system. It uses an ultrafine, intrasulcular tip and air-powered dispenser to provide 70% faster placement time, according to the company.
Colgate launched its Enamel Health toothpaste, which helps smooth and strengthen rough and weakened enamel. Its active fluoride formula helps replenishes natural calcium and phosphate into weakened enamel to fill in rough spots, the company noted. It also polishes tooth surfaces, making bacteria less likely to stick.
Florida Probe's VoiceWorks is a fast, voice-controlled periodontal charting system, particularly suited for noisy dental operatories. It allows dentists to chart full periodontal exams without an assistant and uses a noise-canceling wireless headset and software. It can be used with a periodontal probe, or users can create a hybrid system with the company's Dolphin disposable probe. A three-month risk-free trial is available.
GC America introduced its G-ænial Bond Unit Dose as an addition to G-ænial Bond. It was designed for the "selective etching" technique, so that bond strengths will be enhanced no matter which technique (self-etch, dentin, or etch-and-rinse on enamel) is used. It is also HEMA Free.
Ghost Manufacturing's Multi-Axis Spiral Suction (MASS) features a high-volume evacuation (HVE) tip that serves the function of an HVE tip and saliva ejector, prevents tissue draw-in, and allows for continuous suction even if the end is occluded.
Microcopy's Bite-Chek articulation film has an easy-grip handle that simplifies occlusal adjustments without the need for forceps. It also accurately marks the points of contact, reducing the chances of "too high" an occlusion, according to the company. Patients can close their bite completely, eliminating mandibular reflexes that can skew the occlusion and resulting in an accurate mark for ease of interpretation.
Parkell's Dryz gingival hemostatic retraction paste stops gingival bleeding and seepage that may interfere with impression taking. Its light-green color contrasts with gingival, blood, and tooth structure and is also useful when placing rubber dam clamps, bleaching teeth, and restoring subgingival cavities.
Water Pik launched its Aquarius Professional Designer Series water flosser in four colors: white, black, pink, and teal. It includes a water on/off control on the handle, two flossing modes (floss and hydro-pulse massage), an LED information panel, a flossing timer and pacer, and seven water flosser tips.
Whip Mix launched Preference liquid hand sanitizer for use in the dental operatory and lab. It kills 99.9% of the most common germs associated with cross-contamination and dries quickly, usually in less than 10 seconds, according to the company. The fast-drying nature and added emollients allow for the easy donning of surgical gloves, while leaving skin soft. In a blind survey of more than 70 dental professionals, Preference was favored 3:1 over the industry's leading liquid sanitizer, the company said.
