The U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) has added content on specialty dentistry and unique patient populations to its National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (National Dental PBRN).

Called "nodes," the new areas will recruit dental practitioners within dental specialties and also link practioners who have similar practice types or treat patients with specific conditions affecting oral health.

The National Dental PBRN was launched in 2005 to give dental practitioners a chance to participate in research studies on oral health. Research studies are performed in dental offices with consenting patients.
