San Antonio practice warns patients of security breach

Atique Orthodontics of San Antonio is notifying its patients about a security incident that involved "unauthorized access to a computer in its office."

The practice reported on April 15 that an unauthorized outside party obtained access to an office computer between February 29 and March 30, 2016. While there's no indication any patient information has been misused or compromised, the practice said that sensitive patient information, including but not limited to Social Security numbers, credit card information, and insurance information, may have been accessed inappropriately.

In response, the practice has closed remote access to office computers and has increased technical precautions to protect patient information. It is notifying patients by mail of the data breach.

All patients whose information was accessed inappropriately will be offered identity theft protection services through ID Experts, according to Atique. For more information, visit www.idexpertscorp.com/protect or call 1-844-807-7793. The deadline to enroll is July 18, 2016.
