The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has selected the New York University College of Dentistry (NYU Dentistry) to implement its new pilot program aimed at increasing veterans' access to oral healthcare.
The new initiative, Veterans Oral Care Access Resource (Vocare), is part of the department's VetSmile pilot program and aims to provide dental services to veterans in the New York City area who are not eligible to receive those services through the VA. Vocare began on July 1 in partnership with the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, which has campuses in Manhatttan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
During the first year of the program, NYU Dentistry expects to provide 5,000 veteran patient visits. In future years, the goal is to increase the number of visits to 7,500.
