NIDCR awards nearly $3.5M for dementia oral health intervention

The U.S. National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) has awarded New York University (NYU) College of Nursing researchers a five-year grant of $3.47 million to improve the oral health of people with mild dementia.

The institute awarded the grant to Bei Wu, PhD, a professor in the College of Nursing. Dr. Wu is joined by researchers from Duke Health in North Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The researchers believe the effort is the first oral health intervention conducted among community-dwelling people with mild dementia, Dr. Wu said in a statement.
