Dentsply Sirona, AADOCR applaud 2024 SCADA winners

Dentsply Sirona and the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) have honored the 2024 Student Competition for Advancing Dental Research and its Application (SCADA) award winners.

The SCADA program is designed to inspire students to engage in dental research, enhancing their skills and career prospects. The 2024 awards were presented during the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research/AADOCR General Session in New Orleans, with 51 U.S. students participating alongside winners from Germany, Japan, and Taiwan.

First-, second-, and third-place projects in two categories, each receiving $1,000, $750, and $500 respectively, were held recently.

The top winners in the clinical research/public health category are as follows:

  • First place: Daniel Rexin, Loma Linda University, "Steam Sterilization of 3D-Printed Surgical Guides Affects Implant Placement Accuracy"

  • Second place: Robert Zhou, University of the Pacific, "Comprehensive Assessment of Deep Overbite Correction Using Clear Aligners"

  • Third Place: Chao Dong, University of Washington. "Influence of Gender on OMS Applicants' Recommendation Letters"
  • The top winners in the basic and translational science category are as follows:

    • First place: Ameera Samaher Haque, University of California, San Francisco, "Unraveling the Cellular Basis of Murine Incisor Morphogenesis"

    • Second place: Conrad Harness, Texas A&M School of Dentistry, "Mechanical Forces Regulate Plasticity of Cells During Condyle Growth"

    • Third place: Ali Al Hatem, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry, "MDT-15 Mediates Enhanced Immunity in C. Elegans Against S. Gordonii"
