Stony Brook University (SBU) in Stony Brook, NY, has appointed Dr. Patrick Lloyd as dean of the school of dental medicine effective July 1.
Lloyd joins SBU from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry, where he was dean for a decade. He succeeds Dr. Margaret McGovern, PhD, who has been serving as interim dean since December 2021.
Lloyd's accomplishments while at Ohio State include increasing college funding support for student research and initiating the Commitment to Access Resources and Education program to recruit and support dental students from underserved communities in Ohio.
In addition, he oversaw the planning, design, and fundraising for a $95 million expansion and renovation of the college's clinical and administrative facilities.
Lloyd is a graduate of Marquette University School of Dentistry and earned his specialty certificate in prosthodontics from the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.
