Deadline nears for Minn. loan repayment program

The deadline to apply for the 2016 Dedicated to Minnesota Dentists (DMD) Dental Education Loan Repayment for Service Program is February 15, 2016.

Qualifying dentists are eligible for up to $200,000 of dental education loan repayment in return for commitment to practice general dentistry at least four days a week, for five years, in federally designate dental health professional shortage area (HPSA) in rural or greater Minnesota, according to the program.

The location of the applicant's dental practice must be in a town or city with a population of fewer than 10,000 and be designated an HPSA at the time of the award.

"Oral health is a critical aspect to overall health and well-being," said Rodney Young, chief executive officer and president of Delta Dental of Minnesota and chair of the Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation Board. "There is strong evidence that indicates communities are healthier and more prosperous with access to good oral health and quality dental care. We are proud to partner with the Minnesota Dental Foundation to improve access to oral care through the placement of dentists in Minnesota's underserved communities."

Funding and administration of the DMD program is provided by Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation in collaboration with the Minnesota Dental Foundation's recruitment and promotion efforts to identify the future dentist in greater Minnesota.

Information regarding eligibility, funding, selection criteria, and how to apply is available at www.dedicatedmndentists.org.
