A majority of Americans won't hesitate to get a second opinion for vehicle repairs, yet only 19% said they sought a second opinion for a medical condition, 17% for a medical procedure, and just 6% for dental work, according to an online poll conducted on behalf of Align Technology.
The poll revealed that 70% of respondents would seek a second opinion for a major home repair and/or improvement, more than half would for a major car repair, and 30% would for personal electronics repair, according to a press release.
Trust in their current doctor or dentist is a major reason why respondents said they would not seek a second opinion.
Less than 25% said they would get a second opinion for teeth straightening, and only 10% for oral procedures such as a root canal.
The poll was conducted July 24-26, 2013, among 2,013 adults ages 18 and older by Harris Interactive via its Quick Query omnibus product.
