The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has awarded a $400,000 grant to the American Dental Education Association minority dental faculty development program (ADEA MDFD).
The grant follows a $200,000 grant from the foundation in 2012 that helped expand the program's efforts to improve diversity among dental students and faculty and a $2.4 million grant to initially fund the ADEA MDFD program from 2004 to 2010, according to the association.
The ADEA MDFD has joined 12 universities to increase student diversity. The organization will use the money to support dental hygiene programs at four more schools for community outreach, leadership development, academic mentorships, and recruit minority students.
