Va. dentist pleads guilty to fraud

Peter Sae Lee, DDS, of Leesburg, VA, has admitted in federal court to fraudulently billing dental insurance providers for services that he never rendered.

Dr. Lee pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 7, 2012.

According court records, Dr. Lee practiced dentistry at Leesburg Dental Care. From January 2003 through January 2008, he consistently billed dental insurance providers for dental x-rays, fillings, crowns, and other services for hundreds of patients that were never provided.

Insurers lost more than $76,000 because of these fraudulent claims, along with an additional $26,000 for reimbursements Dr. Lee received for services by his wife, also a dentist, that were fraudulently billed to insurers but were not actually performed, according to Neil MacBride, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
