The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a 510(k) clearance for VideaHealth’s Dental Assist, which expands artificial intelligence (AI) detection of dental disease, including the first application cleared for use in preschoolers.
The clearance includes more than 30 algorithms and expands use for the software, which uses patients’ dental x-rays to aid clinicians in detecting and diagnosing the most common dental diseases. The clearance applications include periapical radiolucencies, calculus, and pediatric caries detection for ages 3 years and older, as well as many other AI models that aim to make subtle detections across all ages.
