Dental artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Overjet has received a U.S. patent for its AI dental x-ray technology.
U.S. Patent No. 11158046B2 encompasses the use of AI for measuring anatomical structure and quantifying disease on dental x-rays, according to the vendor. The deep learning-based technology application can measure distances in dental x-rays without using calibration objects during image capture, Overjet said.
The software can also identify anatomical features such as individual teeth, restorations, implants, cementoenamel junction (CEJ), bone levels, and other physical attributes. As a result, dental professionals can perform calibrated measurements and determine the pixel-to-millimeter ratio of an image, Overjet said.
The AI technology is available in Overjet's Dental Assist software, which has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance.
