As part of its Trusted Connection program, 3M ESPE has worked with IOS Technologies, a subsidiary of Glidewell Laboratories, to test and validate the integration of the 3M True Definition scanner with the IOS TS150 in-office milling system.
The new open-architecture relationship was announced this week at the California Dental Association fall meeting.
With the 3M True Definition scanner and the TS150 system featuring FastDesign software, dentists have an affordable solution for same-day dentistry, the company noted in a press release. The dentist captures a digital impression using the True Definition scanner and sends it to the FastDesign CAD station to design the restoration. By leveraging Glidewell's dental anatomy library, the software creates a crown proposal and guides the user through the rest of the design process.
Once complete, the design is sent to the TS150 mill, an air-driven unit that features a 150,000-rpm spindle and an orbital mill path that prevents the burr from crossing over the margin. The TS150 mill is approved for Lava Ultimate Restorative, 3M ESPE's resin nano ceramic material.
The TS150 in-office milling system and Lava Ultimate Restorative for the TS150 will be sold through Burkhart Dental Supply and Benco Dental.
The complete package -- scanner, software, and mill -- sells for $69,000.
