Dalhousie University has taken an equity position in BlueLight Analytics, a privately held Halifax, Nova Scotia, business that provides specialized instruments and services to the dental market.
The terms of the transaction, which is part of a restructured license agreement, were not disclosed.
Dalhousie originally licensed technology to BlueLight in late 2009. BlueLight specializes in ensuring the accurate light curing of dental materials -- specifically, in the accurate curing of resin composite restoration materials. Its initial product, MARC (Managing Accurate Resin Curing), has been used in more than 40 scientific studies from 17 dental schools in 10 countries, the company noted in a press release.
More recently, BlueLight introduced a chairside service is called checkMARC, which provides dental clinicians, educators, manufacturers, and researchers with a Web-enabled scientific measurement and reporting system that helps them ensure that their light-cured dental materials are accurately and reliably polymerized.
